Facts about Hair Removal

Hair removal, simply defined is the removal of body hair from either the surface or root. Depending on the process used, the result is either temporary, where the hair will grow back or permanent, resulting in everlasting hair removal.

Depilation - The clinical term for temporary hair removal that affects the part of the hair above the surface of the skin. Shaving is the most common form of depilation. Chemical depilatories are also used to break the bonds that link the protein chains that give hair its strength, making the hair disintegrate.

Epilation – Includes several different techniques like waxing, plucking and abrasives. The results from these methods are temporary, lasting up to several weeks. Electrolysis – A permanent hair removal procedure involving the insertion of a needle into the actual hair follicle, which is destroyed when a pulse of electric current is fired into the follicle. Several sessions are necessary in order to achieve the desired results.

Laser Hair Removal – The process of permanently removing hair with lasers that emit a specialized light, passing through the skin, which get absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle. When the follicle is damaged by the laser the hair is removed.
